Wadi El-Natrun Monasteries Tour from Alexandria
Drive in a modern air-conditioned vehicle to Wadi El-Natrun, the actual birthplace of Christian monasticism. There were once about 50 monasteries here, but only four have survived into modern times. Begin your trip with Deir al-Baramus, the oldest of the surviving four monasteries and, in many ways, the most isolated. Then proceed to Deir Anba Bishoi, where the body of Saint Bishoi remains in the monastery. End your trip with a visit to Deir El-Suryani, the smallest and most compact of the four monasteries.
