Wadi El Natron Monasteries Excursion
After breakfast, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel to begin the journey to Wadi El-Natron, the actual birthplace of Christian monasticism. There were once about 50 monasteries here, but only 4 have survived into modern times. Begin your trip with Deir al-Baramus, the oldest of the 4 surviving monasteries and, in many ways, the most isolated. Then proceed to Deir Anba Bishoi, whose body is still in the monastery. Continue your trip to Deir Abu Maqar, which is now the richest monastery in Wadi El-Natron, with more than 100 monks and 600 workers on the extensive farm that spreads in front of it. You will end your trip with Deir El-Suryani, the smallest and most compact of the 4 monasteries. At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to a local restaurant for lunch. After lunch, you will return to your hotel. Trip ends.
