Evening Journey to Furnas with Cozido Dinner and Thermal Baths
Pickup and Photo Stop at Vila Franca do Campo Islet Begin the tour with pickup and a drive along the southern coastline of São Miguel. Stop for a quick photo opportunity overlooking the islet of Vila Franca do Campo, then continue the scenic drive toward Furnas. Visit Furnas Lagoon Arrive at Lagoa das Furnas, located inside a volcanic caldera. Observe the geothermal landscape and natural surroundings rich in flora and fauna, and see the underground cooking area where the traditional Portuguese dish Cozido das Furnas is prepared using geothermal heat. Traditional Cozido Dinner at a Local Restaurant Enjoy dinner at a traditional restaurant in Furnas and taste the famous Cozido das Furnas, slowly cooked underground. The full meal includes a starter, main dish, drinks, dessert, and coffee, with vegetarian or alternative dishes available if required. Furnas Hot Spring Baths at Poça da Dona Beija Visit the Poça da Dona Beija thermal baths and relax in natural hot spring pools with water temperatures around 39°C. Enjoy the peaceful environment surrounded by vegetation and the evening sounds of nature. Fumaroles and Caldeiras Walk in Furnas Village Walk through the village center to see the fumaroles and caldeiras. Observe the geothermal steam rising from the ground at night, taste mineral spring waters, and try a local homemade sweet delicacy. Return Drive and Drop-off Drive back through the northern side of the island toward Ribeira Grande Municipality. Relax during the approximately 45-minute journey back to the drop-off point.
