    Kathmandu and Patan Heritage Sightseeing

Day 1: Kathmandu City Tour (6-7 Hours) Kathmandu Durbar Square Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, is a remarkable complex of ancient palaces, courtyards, and temples that reflects Nepal's royal, cultural, and architectural heritage. This historic palace once served as the coronation site of Nepalese kings. At the entrance, you will see the statue of King Pratap Malla seated atop a stone pillar and the medieval Jagannath Temple. Within walking distance are notable landmarks such as the Taleju Temple (1549 AD), the massive stone statue of Kal Bhairav, the Big Bell and Big Drum, and the shrine of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati peering from palace windows. A highlight of the square is the Kumari Ghar, the residence of the Living Goddess Kumari, a young virgin girl chosen from a Buddhist family and revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. The building is famous for its intricately carved wooden balconies and windows. Nearby stands Kasthamandap Temple, believed to have been constructed from a single tree trunk. The name "Kathmandu" itself is derived from this historic structure. Key Highlights within Kathmandu Durbar Square Kumari (The Living Goddess): Worshipped as Goddess Kali by Hindus and revered by Buddhists Kasthamandap (Maru Sattal): Ancient wooden pavilion built from a single Sal tree Maru Ganesh Temple: One of the most visited Ganesh shrines in the valley, believed to bring good fortune Other sites: Shiva-Parvati Temple, Mahadev Temple, Saraswati Temple, Kal Bhairav, Krishna Octagonal Temple, Big Drums, and old palace courtyards Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) Swayambhunath is a 2,500-year-old stupa located atop a hill approximately 77 meters above the Kathmandu Valley. The hilltop offers stunning panoramic views of the city. The stupa's dome and the all-seeing eyes of Buddha symbolize wisdom and compassion. The complex includes Buddhist monasteries, Hindu temples, and sacred shrines worshipped by followers of both religions. Monkeys roaming freely around the site give it the popular name "Monkey Temple." Boudhanath Stupa Located about 6 km east of Kathmandu, Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world and a major pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists. Built in the 5th century AD, it is surrounded by monasteries and prayer wheels. During winter, thousands of pilgrims gather here to offer prayers, making the atmosphere deeply spiritual and vibrant. Pashupatinath Temple Pashupatinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, lies on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River, around 5 km east of Kathmandu. The temple features two golden roofs and four silver doors and is one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites in the world. From across the river, visitors can observe traditional Hindu cremation rituals, offering insight into Nepalese spiritual beliefs and customs. Patan Durbar Square Patan Durbar Square, the former royal palace of the Patan Kingdom, is considered the most artistically refined of the three Durbar Squares. It showcases exceptional Newari craftsmanship, stone carvings, metalwork, and architecture. Major highlights include: Krishna Mandir with its 21 golden pinnacles Rudra Varna Mahavihar, a historic Buddhist monastery Mul Chowk, the palace's central courtyard After completing the sightseeing in Patan, you will be driven back to your hotel, marking the end of your Kathmandu City Sightseeing Tour - a journey through Nepal's living history, culture, and spirituality.
