Jakarta Heritage, Old Town and Fatahillah Museum
Explore Merdeka Square, a focal point of Jakarta that houses government buildings such as ministries and the presidential offices. Learn about the National Monument, a 134-meter landmark designed to resemble a flame, symbolizing the Indonesian people's spirit against colonialism. Visit the Istiqlal Mosque, the largest in Southeast Asia, and admire the beautiful Catholic Cathedral with its European neo-gothic architecture standing opposite as symbols of unity and diversity. Discover Old Town Batavia, formerly the center of the Dutch colonial government, and admire the Dutch architecture along its canal, which earned it the nickname 'Little Amsterdam.' Experience the Wayang Studio (puppet studio), where you will meet puppet masters, learn about puppet making, and see wayang collections from various regions of Indonesia. Visit the Fatahillah Museum. This building was previously the Dutch governor's office. Inside the museum, you will find various relics from the Dutch colonial era, as well as a dark and narrow underground prison for Indonesian warriors. See Sunda Kelapa Harbor, once the center of trade on Java Island and still operating for domestic shipping, with Pinisi (traditional wooden boats) lined up neatly at the port.
