Samboja Wildlife, Bukit Bangkirai Canopy Bridge and Mangrove Center
Depart by private car from Balikpapan with your Indonesian tour guide and drive to Samboja, which takes about one hour. Upon arrival in Samboja, receive a short briefing with the local guide. See the surroundings from the orangutan island tower, then watch the orangutans on the island from the riverside as the rangers feed them. Continue to the Sun Bear Sanctuary, where you can see how the animals live before being released into the forest. Drive to the office tower to enjoy views of the surrounding BOS Foundation project area. Return to the lodge and rest until lunchtime. Enjoy lunch served at the lodge, then drive to Bukit Bangkirai with your Indonesian tour guide. Begin a short jungle trek through the rainforest, about 500 meters from the parking area to the canopy bridge. Along the way, you will see many tall and huge trees. Upon arrival at the canopy bridge, experience a walk about 30 meters above ground level. Drive to the Mangrove Center, which takes less than one hour. Arrive at the Mangrove Center and board a slow boat called a Klotok/Katamaran. Explore the mangrove forest and look out for proboscis monkeys.
