Operation Market Garden Sites Around Arnhem

Visit the drop and landing zones of the airborne military forces that participated in Operation Market Garden in 1944. The operation liberated part of the southern Netherlands but failed in its objective to cut off the western part of Holland and its important harbours and V2 rocket firing bases. See the battle sites at Arnhem Road Bridge, Westerbouwing Height, the Perimeter at Oosterbeek, Bovenover/Onderlangs, and the ambush site of the recce squad near Wolfheze. Cross the famous Arnhem bridge, where 81 British soldiers died defending it during this military operation. Get an overview of the failed Allied operation at the Oosterbeek Airborne Museum, which, besides "The Experience," houses numerous artefacts, weapons, photos, and films to provide a realistic picture of the Battle of Arnhem. Finish your visit at the Airborne Cemetery, paying homage to the British and Polish soldiers who were killed during this much-discussed operation.
