Itinerary

  1. 1
    Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu and Time in Thamel

Welcome to Nepal! Use this day to rest, or walk around the lively streets of Thamel. Thamel is a busy area with shops and restaurants, and it is a good time to buy any last-minute items. You can find hats, bug spray, or small gifts. Get ready for your jungle trip, and enjoy a nice dinner in the city while trying some local food.

    Day 02

Travel to Bardiya via Nepalgunj or Overland

By Plane: After breakfast, you will go to the domestic airport and take a short flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. The flight offers amazing views of the Himalayan mountains, with snow-capped peaks and green valleys below. When you land in Nepalgunj, someone from your jungle lodge will meet you and drive you 2-3 hours to Thakurdwara, the main entry point to Bardiya National Park. The drive passes through local villages and farm fields. Once you arrive, settle into your lodge, enjoy the quiet jungle air, listen to the sounds of nature, and get ready for the wild. By Car: Start your long drive early in the morning as you head west from Kathmandu. The road takes you down from the hills into the flat, fertile lands of the Terai. The scenery changes from winding mountain roads to straight, open highways. You will likely stop for the night in a city like Butwal or Dang, where you can rest and eat, then continue driving to Bardiya the next morning. This part of the trip shows you much of Nepal's varied landscape and is a long but interesting ride.

    Day 03

Full-Day Jeep Safari in Bardiya National Park

Today, you will spend the full day exploring Bardiya National Park in search of wildlife. After an early breakfast, you will climb into a 4WD jeep with an expert nature guide. The safari takes you through a variety of habitats, including wide grasslands, thick river forests, and dense sal jungles. Keep watch for rhinos, elephants, deer, and monkeys. With luck, you may even spot the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. The guides are skilled at reading animal signs and know where wildlife is most likely to hide. You will also stop at high watchtowers overlooking water holes, where animals often come to drink, increasing your chances of sightings. You will enjoy a packed lunch inside the park, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. Every moment brings the possibility of seeing something new.

  4. 4
    Day 04

Jungle Walk and Tharu Village Experience

Today, you will experience the jungle in a different way - on foot. At least two trained guides will accompany you, and they know the forest well. Walking quietly through the jungle is a thrilling way to discover its smaller wonders. You will track animal footprints, find plants used for medicine, and listen closely to the many sounds of birds. Every rustle in the leaves will spark your curiosity. In the afternoon, you will take a guided tour of a nearby Tharu village. You will learn about their distinctive buildings, see their traditional ways, and gain insight into daily life. The Tharu people have a rich history, and this visit reveals a different side of Nepal. You can speak with local people, learn from them, and enjoy a deeper cultural experience.

  5. 5
    Day 05

Karnali River Rafting and Dolphin Spotting

Today, you will explore the Karnali River, one of Nepal's biggest rivers. You can choose a calm rafting trip, which is a wonderful way to observe wildlife both in the water and along the riverbanks. The river flows gently, creating a peaceful setting for the day. Keep an eye out for Mugger and Gharial crocodiles, which are often seen near the banks. You will also spot many kinds of birds flying overhead or resting on branches. This stretch of the river is also one of the last homes of the endangered Ganges River Dolphin, making any sighting especially memorable. The calm of the river offers a refreshing contrast to the jungle walks and gives you a different perspective on Bardiya's wild beauty.

    Return Journey to Kathmandu

After one last jungle breakfast, you will travel back to Nepalgunj and catch your flight to Kathmandu. If you came by car, you will begin the long drive back instead. The journey gives you time to reflect on your adventure and all that you have experienced. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, check into your hotel and enjoy your final dinner. Share your favorite moments, talk about your wildlife sightings, and relive the memories of your time in Bardiya. It is a fitting and memorable way to end your adventure.
