Old Town Lijiang Walk and Black Dragon Pool Park
Meet your tour guide and visit the beautiful Old Town of Lijiang, also known as the Venice of the East, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. The old town was built in the 13th century and was an important stop on the ancient Tea and Horse Road from Yunnan to Tibet. Walk through the cobbled stone streets of the old town, passing beautiful water canals, ancient bridges, unique buildings, and courtyards. The town covers an area of 3.8 square kilometres and is home to a mixture of Naxi, Bai, and Han people. Visit the central market to see one of the earliest squares with an auto-washing system. See the ancient drinking water systems in Lijiang - the three wells where locals get water for drinking, washing vegetables, and washing clothes. Learn about local fare and street food such as grilled tofu, and walk past interesting shops in town, including Dongba handmade paper shops, silver-making shops, and leather-making shops. After the Old Town tour, continue to Black Dragon Pool Park and walk from the south side of the park. The first ancient building that comes into view is the One Cent Pavilion. Then walk across Suocui Bridge to the best spot to enjoy the reflection of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the marble bridge. Continue to the other side of the park and admire the painting and carving details of the Moon-Embracing Pavilion. Finally, end the tour with a visit to the Dragon's Temple and learn about its architecture and the Taoist religion. Tour ends.
