Historic Churches, Markets, and Chocolate in Oaxaca

Meet your local guide and begin the tour. Visit the church and ex-monastery of Del Carmen Alto, along with the Carmen El Alto Temple. Explore the Graphic Arts Institute of Oaxaca and see its collection showcasing the best of universal and contemporary graphic art. Continue to the Church of Santo Domingo, a historic architectural monument of the Dominican Order consisting of the temple, the former convent, the orchard, and a spacious cut-stone plaza, slightly elevated above the traffic-free cobblestone streets below. Stroll through the Main Plaza, or Constitution Park, which has existed since the city was founded in 1529. Discover the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption and the Macedonio Alcalá Theater. Proceed to the convent of Santa Catalina de Siena and the 20 de Noviembre Market, with dozens of food stalls where you can enjoy the smell, colour, and flavour of traditional Oaxacan cuisine. Head to Benito Juárez Market, the most traditional market in the city, offering flowers, handicrafts, leather goods, hats, and knives. Visit a local chocolate factory.
