Kirtipur Heritage Walk and Sacred Sites
Meet our tour representative at your hotel in Kathmandu. Drive to Kirtipur. It takes about half an hour to get there from Kathmandu. Stop at the entrance ticket counter. Entrance for foreigners is Rs. 100 per person. Then begin your walk and sightseeing in Kirtipur. Kirtipur is an old human settlement at the top of Kirtipur Hill and is a Newari city. The Newar are one of the ethnic groups of Nepal, with their own culture, customs, and traditions. They practice both Hinduism and Buddhism, so during the walk you will see old stupas, temples, and monasteries. First, visit the 14th-century Chilancho Stupa. It is a famous example of Nepalese temple architecture, built by Buddhist people and containing Buddhist relics. It holds spiritual and philosophical value, and visiting the stupa offers insight into the philosophy of life. Around the stupa, observe old images of different deities, prayer wheels, and ritual objects. After the stupa, proceed to the Baga Bhairab Temple, built in the 13th century. It is a Hindu pagoda temple dedicated to God Shiva. Shiva is represented here with an angry tiger face. In the local language, Baga means tiger, and this deity is regarded as the guardian god of the city of Kirtipur. The next stop is the Uma Maheswor Temple, situated at the highest point of the city. Enjoy beautiful views from here. This temple is famous for its beautifully carved wooden pillars and struts, and it was built in the 17th century. Conclude your walk at the Buddhist Monastery, where Buddhist monks pray and learn Buddhism.
