Day 01

Explore the Medieval Heart of San Gimignano

The visit will begin at one of the main gates of the city, called San Giovanni. Going into the heart of the village, reach Piazza della Cisterna. Afterwards, admire Piazza del Duomo, the political and religious centre of San Gimignano, where the Palazzo Pubblico (city hall) and the Cathedral stand. The Palazzo Pubblico is the seat of the Civic Museum, which preserves famous 14th-century frescoes in the halls Sala del Podestà and Sala di Dante. From this ancient palace, arrive at the highest tower of San Gimignano, the 54 m Torre Grossa (Big Tower). The Cathedral still preserves precious frescoes painted by Sienese artists in the 14th century. Continue the tour by walking along the ancient streets of the village, where you can find craft shops and unique artists' workshops. Arrive at the Church of Sant'Agostino, where you can appreciate the wonderful works of Florentine artists from the 15th century. Enjoy a breathtaking view from the Rocca di Montestaffoli, a Florentine bastion.
