Cologne Old Town, Roman Heritage and Rhine Walk

Start at the Cologne (DOM) Cathedral and admire its stunning Gothic architecture while learning about its history and significance. Walk to the nearby Historical Town Hall and spend 20-30 minutes exploring the impressive tower and Gothic facade, while learning about its role in the city's history. Continue to the Original Cologne Water House, where you can learn about the production of this famous perfume and its history. Next, visit the Roman City to explore the Roman-Germanic Museum, which houses an impressive collection of Roman artefacts, and the Praetorium, a former Roman governor's palace. Walk to the Old Market, which takes approximately 10 minutes, and spend 10-15 minutes enjoying the bustling atmosphere of this historic square. Finally, walk to the Rhine River, take in the scenic views, and understand the river's significance to the city. If time permits, you can stop by the Fish Market and sample some local seafood. End the tour at the Cologne Carnival, which takes place in February or March and lasts for several days. If your tour coincides with the carnival, spend some time experiencing the festive atmosphere and learning about its history and traditions. Otherwise, you can use the remaining time to share legends and secrets about the city with your group.
