Walking Tour of Arequipa's Historic Centre
Meet your tour guide and begin the tour at the Bolognesi Bridge, which offers visitors a magnificent view of the Misti and Chachani Volcanoes. After crossing the bridge, head towards the Main Square, considered the city's centre point of activity and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most cities in Peru have a "Plaza de Armas" or Main Square, but none are quite as attractive as the one at the heart of Arequipa's historic centre. The Basilica Cathedral, a landmark of the city, is a blend of neoclassical, renaissance, and Gothic styles and was built from the volcanic stone known as sillar. After admiring the Cathedral, proceed to the Iglesia de la Compania, an elegant Jesuit church located on the opposite corner of the plaza, with a beautifully carved facade in the Churrigueresque design style.
