Wadi Al Hitan Fossils and Fayoum Desert Adventure
Meet the guide after our representative picks you up from your hotel in Cairo and transfer to begin your adventure trip to Al Fayoum Oasis, located 80 km southwest of Cairo. Drive in a Toyota Land Cruiser (4x4) to Wadi Al Hitan, a journey of 69.2 km. Wadi Al Hitan is a protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, added in 2005. Discovered in 1936, it lies 35 km west of Wadi El-Rayan, deep in the Western Desert. This extraordinary fossil site is considered an open museum dating back 45 million years and contains petrified primitive whale skeletons, shark teeth, shells, corals, and mangrove roots preserved in soft rock. Visit the Fossil & Climate Change Museum, which hosts a variety of whale fossils and skeletons displayed outdoors. Inside, you will see more fossils, skeletons, fossilized mangroves, and ancient seashells exhibited in glass cases. Order a lunch of your choice at 14:00 at the Wadi El Hitan rest house, and it will be served by 15:00. Drive back to Tunis Village, passing through Wadi El Rayan, Wadi Hitan, and Mudawara Mountain. Arrive in Cairo by 19:00.
